Punjab: Firing between Nihangs and police in Sultanpur Lodhi, home guard jawan killed, ten including DSP injured

After occupying Gurudwara Shri Akal Bunga in Sultanpur Lodhi, 10 Nihang Singhs were arrested by the Sultanpur Lodhi police on Wednesday while occupying Dera Peer Geb on Busowal Road.

There was heavy firing between police and Nihang Singhs at Gurudwara Akal Bunga in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala on Thursday morning. Jaspal Singh, a home guard posted in PCR, died in the firing. Ten policemen including DSP Bhulath were injured.

All the injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal reached the hospital to inquire about the well being of the injured. The competition between police and Nihangs is still going on. There is tension in the area after this clash. The entire area has been sealed and converted into a police camp.

SSP Kapurthala Vatsala Gupta told that for many years, Baba Budha Dal in front of Gurudwara Sri Ber Sahib was under the control of 96 crore Saint Balbir Singh Singh, on whose behalf two of his servants were seated in Gurudwara Akal Bunga, whose name was Nirvair. Singh and Jagjit Singh.

On November 21, at 8:30 in the morning, Sant Baba Maan Singh, head of the breakaway faction of Baba Budha Dal, along with his 15-20 companions forcibly entered Gurudwara Shri Akal Bunga Sahib and tied Nirvair Singh with ropes and attacked Jagjit Singh with weapons. They captured Gurudwara Sahib by snatching weapons, mobile phones and money.

On the statement of Jagjit Singh, a case has been registered against Baba Man Singh and his 15-20 associates under various sections in Sultanpur Lodhi police station. On Wednesday, 10 Nihang Singhs, servants of Nihang Singh Man Singh, tried to capture Peer Geb near village Busowal Road, the second camp of Baba Balbir Singh. When the police got information about this, they immediately reached the spot and arrested the said 10 people. These include accused wanted in the case registered under various sections including murder in the clash between the two groups on May 15, 2020.
