Railways came to its senses after the Balasore train accident!
On June 2 at 7 pm, the Coromandel Express collided with an already parked goods train and most of its coaches were derailed.
Railway has come into active mode after the train accident in Balasore, Odisha. The Ministry of Railways has decided to get the signaling system audited across the country. The Railway Board has ordered all General Managers to investigate and submit the report by June 14. It has been said in the order that the housing signaling equipment installed at the railway stations should be investigated.
It has also been said in the order of the Ministry of Railways that after checking the relay room, it should be decided that the double signaling system is working properly. Explain that the signaling system is controlled from the relay room itself. More than 250 people died and more than 1,000 passengers were injured in Friday's accident in Balasore.
In the past, railway officials indicated possible sabotage and tampering with the electronic interlocking system for the derailment involving the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train. In a letter to the General Managers of all zones, the Railway Board has directed that a security drive should be launched immediately with special attention to all the domes of signaling equipment within station limits. The board said that with investigation it should be ensured that they have double locking system.
The board said that all the relay rooms of the stations should be checked and proper working of the double locking arrangement should be ensured. The Board said that it should also be ensured that data logging and SMS alerts are being generated for opening/closing doors of these relay rooms. Railway Board has directed to examine whether the system of disconnection and reconnection for signaling and telecommunication equipment is being strictly followed as per the prescribed norms and guidelines.
Meanwhile, around 54 officers of South Eastern Railway's Kharagpur division, who were on duty during the accident, have been asked to remain present for the inquiry on June 5 and June 6. The board has also summoned off-duty railway officials who were on board either of the two trains, and officials who had reached the accident site earlier.
The first train passed after the accident
After the train accident, when the first passenger train passed through the accident site on Monday, most of the passengers were watching the horrors of the accident outside the windows, some passengers were bewildered while the rest were muttering Jagannath Jagannath. While passing through Bahanaga Bazar station, the speed of Vande Bharat Express had slowed down considerably due to which the passengers could see the horrors from close quarters. There some coaches were still lying upside down and the workers were removing the debris with the help of cranes.
Let us tell you that on June 2, at seven in the evening, the Coromandel Express collided with an already standing goods train and most of its coaches were derailed. Some coaches of the Coromandel Express collided with the last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express which was passing in the opposite direction at the same time.
