On the occasion of Republic Day 2024, tableau of different states and ministries are shown in the national capital. West Bengal and Punjab have alleged that their tableau have been allegedly discriminated against. Defense Ministry sources have given an important statement on this issue. The Defense Ministry has said that the tableaux of the two states were not made part of the parade due to their failure to reflect the 'broad theme' of the Republic Day theme. Sources said the expert committee took the final decision only after considering the proposal for Punjab's tableau in the first three rounds of meetings.
Defense Ministry sources said that Punjab's tableau was not in sync with the broader themes. For this reason the Expert Committee could not consider it further after the third round of meeting. This is also the reason for West Bengal's tableau not being selected in the 2024 Republic Day parade. Sources said that the final decision on Bengal's tableau was taken in two rounds of meetings only.
According to sources, a total of 30 states and union territories, including West Bengal and Punjab, had expressed their desire to participate in this year's parade. Like every year, 15-16 states have been finally selected.
