Roorkee Violence: Case filed against 700 unknown people, police raided many places to arrest rioters

A large number of family members and villagers had reached Kotwali on Monday morning and created a ruckus.

Roorkee Police has registered a case against 700 unknown people in connection with the ruckus in Belda village on Monday. Along with this, the police is raiding at various places regarding the arrest. On the other hand, in view of the tension in the village, the police force is still deployed. SSP Ajay Singh said that a case has been registered against 700 unknown people who created ruckus. While 13 people have been arrested.

A case has been registered against Bawalio under various sections including attempt to murder for obstructing government work. The SSP said that in the case of the youth's death, a case of culpable homicide has been registered against Aman, a resident of the village. Also, the matter is being investigated.

Police released tear gas shells

In Roorkee, after the death of a youth after being hit by a tractor-trolley, the dispute increased so much that the villagers pelted stones at the police. In this, five people including two inspectors, one sub-inspector were injured. The miscreants also set a bike on fire. When the ruckus increased, the police first released tear gas shells, but when the situation was not under control, they resorted to lathicharge. Section 144 was imposed in the 10 km radius of the village late in the evening. Late night District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbyal also reached the spot and investigated. The police have detained more than 50 people who pelted stones.

On Sunday night, Pankaj (35), a resident of Belda village in Civil Lines Kotwali area, was returning to his village by bike. He got hit by a tractor around 11 pm. On Monday, the family members and villagers of the youth surrounded the police station, accusing some people of attacking them with rods. Later in the afternoon, people also pushed and scuffled with the police. When the police somehow chased the people away from there by lathi charge, the people reached Belda village. Due to the possibility of jamming the highway, a heavy police force also reached there. Here the villagers pelted stones at the police. Two inspectors, one inspector were injured in this. The injured police officers have been admitted to the hospital. Police claim that the ruckus was pacified by eight o'clock in the night.
