Severe Weather Alerts Across India: Heavy Rains Disrupt Traffic and Trigger Warnings

In Himachal Pradesh, continuous heavy rainfall over the past four days has led to severe disruptions in traffic across the state. Over 114 roads have been affected, with major interruptions reported in several districts. The local meteorological department has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh, effective until August 7. The roads impacted include 79 in Mandi, 38 in Kullu, 35 in Chamba, and 30 in Shimla. Additionally, traffic has been disrupted on five roads in Kangra and two each in Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts.
Weather Warnings for Jharkhand
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rains for several districts in Jharkhand over the coming days. On August 4, heavy rainfall is expected in Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra, with possible thunderstorms and lightning. The weather is predicted to continue with heavy rains in northeastern and northwestern parts on August 6 and in the western regions on August 7.
West Bengal Faces Storm Warning
In West Bengal, a low-pressure area has intensified into a depression, leading to continuous rainfall in Kolkata and surrounding districts. The depression is moving towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Due to the active monsoon, heavy rains have been reported in South Bengal, with warnings for further storms and lightning. The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Kolkata and neighboring districts, including Howrah, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, East Bardhaman, Hooghly, Nadia, and North and South 24 Parganas. An ‘orange’ alert has been issued for Purulia, Murshidabad, Malda, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong districts.
Delhi’s Weather Update
In Delhi, light rain was observed in some areas on Saturday, with the maximum temperature reaching 34.7°C, which is normal for this time of year. The IMD has predicted cloudy skies and light rain for Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 35°C and 28°C, respectively.
Maharashtra Alerts
The IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Palghar, Pune, and Satara districts of Maharashtra for August 4. An ‘orange alert’ has been issued for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Sindhudurg, and Nashik. The weather department predicts extremely heavy rainfall in some coastal areas of Palghar and very heavy rainfall in Pune and Satara, with moderate rainfall expected in the plains.
Residents across these regions are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.
