Sidhu Moose Wala: Balkaur Singh, father of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, clarified on Saturday that he will not contest any election. At the same time, he said that people should not pay attention to any rumor related to it. In fact, his statement came a day after Congress's Punjab unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Vading supported economist Sardar Singh Johal's suggestion to get Balkaur elected unopposed from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.
I have no intention of contesting elections: Balkaur Singh
Let us tell you that the parents of late Punjabi singer Moosewala met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Chandigarh airport on Saturday. After the meeting, Balkaur Singh said that he feels sad when he sees various such discussions on social media. He told people not to pay attention to them.
The fire of my son's pyre has not cooled yet
Balkaur said that the fire of my son's pyre has not cooled down yet. I have no intention of contesting elections. Thanking people for sharing their grief with the family, Balkaur Singh urged people to attend his son's bhog program on June 8 and said he would share his views. Sidhu Musewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mansa on 29 May.
A well-known economist said this on his Facebook page
Earlier on Friday, on his Facebook page, well-known economist Johal wrote that the murder of Sidhu Musewala is very unfortunate and painful. He had said that the society had lost a strong and popular voice. This is a cultural loss. The loss for the parents is unimaginable and cannot be compensated. Expressing his heartfelt condolences to Musewala's parents, Johal said that I think it might be of little help if Sidhu Musewala's father is persuaded to be elected unopposed in the Parliament by-elections from Sangrur constituency.
Punjab Congress chief supported Johal's idea
After Johal's tweet, Wadding, the Congress's Punjab unit chief, supported Johal's idea. Sangrur Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Bhagwant Mann contested and won from Dhuri assembly constituency in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. Mann, currently the Chief Minister of Punjab, had won from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in the year 2014 and 2019. Polling for this seat will be held on June 23, while the counting of votes will take place on June 26.
