The Supreme Court issues notice on NEET-UG 2024 petitions regarding paper leak and irregularities, with cases pending in Rajasthan High Court.

On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a notice on petitions filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) concerning the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The NTA is seeking to transfer cases pending before the Rajasthan High Court to the Supreme Court. These cases are related to allegations of paper leaks and irregularities during the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

Pending Petitions and Allegations

Several petitions are currently pending in the Supreme Court, which call for the withdrawal of the NEET-UG 2024 results and demand that the exam be conducted afresh. The petitions allege that there were significant irregularities, including a question paper leak, compensatory marking issues, and discrepancies in the NEET-UG questions. Candidates have approached the Supreme Court, raising concerns about these issues and seeking redress.

CBI Investigation and Arrests

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam. So far, the CBI has registered six First Information Reports (FIRs) related to this case. Approximately 57 individuals have been arrested in connection with the investigation. Out of these, 12 were arrested by the central agency, while the remaining suspects were apprehended by various state police forces. To date, 22 people have been granted bail.

Background of the NEET-UG Exam

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the NEET-UG exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in both government and private institutions. This year’s exam was held on May 5, with around 23 lakh candidates appearing at 4,750 examination centers across 571 cities. The results were announced on May 4, with 67 candidates scoring the maximum of 720 marks, and two others scoring 718 and 719 marks.

This unprecedented outcome has sparked controversy and raised questions about the integrity of the examination process. It is the first time in the history of the NEET exam that so many candidates have achieved perfect scores. In response to these concerns, protests have been held across the country, highlighting the alleged fraud and paper leak issues.

Ongoing Legal and Public Reactions

The Supreme Court’s involvement underscores the gravity of the situation and the widespread concern among candidates and their families. As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on ensuring the fairness and transparency of the examination process. The NTA and other authorities are under pressure to address these issues promptly and restore confidence in the NEET-UG examination system.

The outcome of these legal battles will be closely watched, as they have significant implications for the future of medical entrance exams in India. Candidates and educational institutions alike are hoping for a resolution that upholds the integrity of the examination process and ensures a level playing field for all aspirants.
