The new process of listing matters for urgent hearing in the Supreme Court is going to be implemented.

The new process of listing matters for urgent hearing in the Supreme Court is going to be implemented. The Supreme Court is going to open on July 3 after the summer vacations, the new system will come into effect as soon as the court opens. The Supreme Court has issued a new circular in this regard on 28 June. This circular issued by the Registrar of Judicial Administration states that new cases which are verified on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday will automatically be listed on the next Monday.

What is in the circular of the Supreme Court

The circular states that advocates who want to get their verified new cases listed before the allotted dates, must submit the mention proforma to the Mentioning Officer a day before by 3 pm. On the other hand, the advocates who want hearing on the same day, they will have to submit their mention proforma before the Mentioning Officer by 10.30 am along with the letter of urgency. According to the circular, the Chief Justice will decide on these during the lunch hour. No case will be included in the list other than the mention list uploaded a day earlier.

what was the old process

Till now, for listing of cases for urgent hearing, lawyers and litigants had to appear in the court of the Chief Justice and show cause for urgent hearing of the matter. The Supreme Court has also released the new roster of the Supreme Court from July 3. According to this roster, benches headed by the Chief Justice and two senior judges will hear PILs.
