A Qatar court on Thursday granted relief to eight former Indian Navy officers who were awarded death sentence in a case in October. Qatar's appellate court has stayed the death sentence of eight former Indian Navy officers, arrested last year in the Dahra Global case, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release. Also said that the sentence has now been changed to prison terms. Giving information related to the decision, the Ministry of External Affairs said that we have taken note of today's decision of the Appellate Court of Qatar in the Dahra Global case, in which the sentences have been reduced. The Ministry of External Affairs said that a detailed decision in the matter is awaited. He is in touch with the legal team in Qatar. Former diplomat Anil Trigunayat has reacted to this.

Former diplomat Anil Trigunayat's reaction has come to light on the death sentence given to eight former Indian Navy personnel in Qatar. He said that you know, relations between Qatar and India have been very strong, mutually beneficial, but this matter has created bitterness in the relationship. On the issue of the sentencing of the eight sailors, he said, "Personally I think it is very good news that the appeal court has reduced their sentences." He also said that I hope that he will be released soon.
 

Deep relations between India and Qatar – Trigunayat

Speaking on the matter, Anil Trigunayat said that we hope that in view of the deep relations between the two countries, he will be returned home as soon as possible. Our country also respects the laws of Qatar and I am sure they will do so. Former diplomat Anil Trigunayat said that when I went to Qatar recently, I saw that India's relations with Qatar are very good. These relationships are as important for them as they are for us.
