In a tragic incident, six youths from Durgapur drowned while bathing in the Mandarmani sea near Digha, West Bengal. Two of them, identified as Samar Chakraborty (35) and Kaushik Mandal (32), have been confirmed dead. The body of the third youth, Ritwik Barui, was found on Wednesday in the Chandpur area near Mandarmani. The remaining three youths are currently receiving treatment at a local government hospital. The deceased youths included Samar, a resident of SN Bose of Steel Nagar in Durgapur, and Kaushik, a resident of Dharmarajtala in Bhirangi. Following the news of the incident, their families have departed for Mandarmani from Durgapur. The incident has led to a significant gathering of people near their residences in Durgapur.
Details of the Incident
According to sources, on Sunday, six friends from Durgapur set off for Mandarmani in a private car for a sightseeing trip. They checked into the Golden Beach Resort Hotel. On Tuesday morning, the group went to bathe in the sea. During their swim, all six friends began to sink in the depths of the sea. Upon hearing their cries for help, a team of swimmers rushed to the rescue and managed to pull three of the friends out of the water.
Rescue Efforts and Casualties
Samar and Kaushik were found in an unconscious state and were immediately taken to Balisai Government Hospital, where they were declared dead by the doctors. Ritwik Barui could not be rescued in time and his body was found later. The Mandarmani police have deployed speed boats to search for the missing youths. The deceased Samar was employed as a salesman while Kaushik worked for a private company.
