Union Home Minister
Amit Shah spoke to
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday and inquired about the situation arising out of the rains. Shah tweeted, teams of NDRF and SDRF as well as the local administration are helping people in the affected areas. The Central and State Governments stand with the people of the State in this hour of difficulty. The state has recorded an average of 32 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Valsad's Dharampur taluka receiving the highest rainfall of 234 mm.
NDRF teams deployed in flood affected areas
The
IMD said that the monsoon has now become active over the entire country. Heavy to very
heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of the country during the next few days. Heavy rains continue in
Gujarat. Junagadh's Vanthali Ojat Viar Dam has overflowed. Many drains including the Ambika river are also overflowing. Heavy rains lashed the northern coastal areas of the state, inundating low-lying areas and creating a flood-like situation. NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into relief and rescue operations in the affected districts. Due to the rain, many roads have been washed away and due to this the connectivity of hundreds of villages has been lost.
