West Bengal Cold Storage Association Proposes Relief for Skyrocketing Potato Prices
West Bengal Cold Storage Association proposes to provide potatoes at cheaper rates to control skyrocketing prices and offer relief to the common man.
Preparations are being made to bring the vegetable king potato, which has gone out of control in the retail market, into the kitchen of the common man. This preparation is being done in West Bengal. It is reported that to control the skyrocketing potato prices, the West Bengal Cold Storage Association (WBLSA) has proposed to the government to provide potatoes at cheaper rates. The common man is expected to get relief from rising inflation with this step of the West Bengal Cold Storage Association.
Potato is Being Sold at Rs 37-40 per kg in the Retail Market
According to media reports, the West Bengal Cold Storage Association has proposed to supply potatoes to the state government at the rate of Rs 26 per kg amid high prices in the retail market. Officials of the West Bengal Cold Storage Association said that at present, potatoes are being sold in the retail market at the rate of Rs 37-40 per kg depending on the size.
WBCSA Will Give Potatoes to the Government at Rs 26 per kg
An official of the Hooghly unit of WBCSA said, “We have sent a proposal to the state government to supply potatoes to Sufal Bangla at the rate of Rs 1,300 (Rs 26 per kg) for a 50 kg sack with a minimum size of 35 mm.” This is the old cold storage price. At present, the price of cold storage is Rs 28-29 per kg. Most of the potatoes in Kolkata come from the Hooghly district.
Potato is Priced at Rs 29 and Onion at Rs 39 at Government Stores
Agriculture Marketing Minister Becharam Manna said that at the government-run Sufal Bangla shops, each family is selling three kg of potatoes at the rate of Rs 29 per kg and one kg of onions at the rate of Rs 39 per kg. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had directed the concerned officials to control the high prices of vegetables and set a deadline of 10 days, which will end this week. The Agriculture Task Force and the Enforcement Department are inspecting retail markets to prevent hoarding and price manipulation. At present, despite the direction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, there has been no significant decline in the prices of these vegetables.
