New Delhi: Yamuna river in Delhi is in spate due to release of huge amount of water from Hathnikund barrage in Yamuna Nagar after heavy rains in Haryana. According to the information given by the Delhi Flood Control Room, due to the release of rain water from Hathini Kund late on Thursday, the water level of Yamuna river has increased to the danger mark by 204.5 meters on Friday. According to the forecast of the Central Water Commission, the water level of Yamuna river may cross the danger mark of 205.33 meters by Saturday morning. Along with this, instructions have been given by the Delhi government to evacuate the areas situated on the banks of river Yamuna, so that life and property can be protected.
Tomorrow morning the water level will cross the danger mark
According to media reports, the Yamuna river in Delhi is flowing near the warning level with 204.5 meters following heavy rains in the upper catchment areas and the river is expected to cross the danger mark of 205.33 meters by Saturday morning. The Delhi Flood Control Room issued this warning on Thursday night. According to the forecast of the Central Water Commission, the water level of the river may cross the danger mark of 205.33 meters on Saturday morning. According to the flood control room, the water level on the old railway bridge was 203.86 meters at 8 am and was recorded at 204.29 meters at 8 am on Thursday.
Flood in Delhi after release of water from Hathnikund barrage

Water reaches Delhi in two-three days from Hathnikund
The Delhi Flood Control Room reported about 2.21 lakh cusecs of water released from Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar district of Haryana at 3 pm on Thursday and around 1.55 lakh cusecs at midnight. One cusec of water is equal to 28.32 liters per second. Normally the flow rate at Hathnikund barrage is 352 cusecs, but the water flow increases after heavy rains in the catchment areas. It usually takes two to three days for the water released from the barrage to reach the capital.
Administration is monitoring the situation
On the other hand, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rains occurred at some places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The administration is closely monitoring the situation as more rains are expected in the area. On July 30 last year, Yamuna crossed the danger mark and the water level of the old railway bridge reached 205.59 metres.
