Yoga Day: UNGA President will attend Yoga Day celebrations with PM Modi in UN, know full program

PM Modi will lead a yoga session at the United Nations Secretariat on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21.

During his visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations on June 21. Saba Korosi, President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), will also attend the event. Korosi gave this information by tweeting. He wrote that I am excited to participate in the 9th International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations next week at the North Lawn of the United Nations Headquarters with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, the UN has also issued an advisory for the programme.

PM Modi will lead a yoga session at the United Nations Secretariat on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21. The draft resolution for the establishment of the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and supported by a record 175 member states. Giving this information recently, United Nations Resident Co-ordinator in India, Shomby Sharp said that since 2015, the world has truly adopted International Yoga Day. He said that everyone has understood the importance of Yoga and 175 member countries have signed it immediately. It is one of those popular international days and actually symbolizes a lot of things. It is effective for mental health.

Let me tell you, on September 27, 2014, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had put forward the idea of International Yoga Day for the first time. The draft resolution passed by India was supported by 175 countries. With the universal recognition and increasing popularity of yoga, the United Nations declared 21 June as International Yoga Day on 11 December 2014. After this, the first International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June 2015.

At the same time, in the advisory issued for the program, it was said that on the occasion of 9th International Yoga Day, the United Nations has invited everyone to participate in the yoga session. It has also been told that this will be the first time that PM Modi will lead a yoga session in the UN.

The yoga session will take place on June 21 from 8 am to 9 am in the sprawling North Lawn of the UN Headquarters. Significantly, last year, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was given to the United Nations by India, which was installed here in December.

As per the advisory, the historic yoga session is expected to be attended by top UN officials, ambassadors, envoys, representatives of member states as well as prominent members of the global and diaspora community. Along with this, people have been asked to come wearing clothes in which they can do yoga. At the same time, the UN has said to give Yoga Mat itself on this occasion.
