American smartphone company Apple has been imposed an additional tax of $ 105 million (about Rs 870 crore) on the bulk sale of iPhone in Japan. Apple has been accused of bulk duty-free sales of iPhones and other devices to foreign tourists. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau says the company has not paid taxes on sales of $104.16 million over the past two years. Actually, the Taxation Bureau started its investigation last year itself. In the investigation, the bureau has found several unusual transactions, including information about the purchase of hundreds of devices by tourists. That is, an additional tax of $ 105 million has been imposed on the company to hide sales information.

In Japan, foreign tourists (within six months of arrival) are allowed to purchase souvenirs or daily-use items and take them abroad, but are subject to tax.
