The premiere of Something Beautiful, Miley Cyrus’s visual album, at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, nearly descended into chaos due to a misunderstanding that left some fans frustrated. The event, held on June 6 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, culminated in a tense question-and-answer session where spectators demanded that the singer perform songs live, believing they were attending a concert.
The confusion that sparked the boos
Following the film screening, Cyrus and her team—including producer Panos Cosmatos and co-directors Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter—participated in a discussion. However, the discussion was interrupted by shouts from attendees demanding a musical performance.
“We paid $800!” and “We thought this was a concert!” were some of the complaints captured on fan videos. Another attendee even shouted out a request for “The Climb,” the hit song from Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009). Cyrus, surprised but composed, responded humorously: “You have to start it,” before singing a snippet of the song a cappella, which calmed the mood and generated a chorus from the audience.
While some fans defended the artist on social media — “Were you going to the FILM Festival for a concert? How disrespectful!” — others revealed that resale platforms such as VividSeats had advertised the event as part of a supposed “Endless Summer Vacation Tour 2025.”
However, Cyrus previously clarified that Something Beautiful — available in May — is her alternative to a traditional tour.
In an interview with Zane Lowe, the singer confessed that she originally planned performances in exotic locations, such as pyramids or forests, but backed out after some advice from Harrison Ford: “He said to me: 'Are you going to bring equipment? ... It seems expensive,'” she recalled with a laugh.
Despite the incident, Cyrus demonstrated her professionalism by turning an awkward situation into a spontaneous and emotional moment. The film Something Beautiful will be released in theaters on June 12th, in a one-off screening.closing another chapter in the star's artistic evolution.
