Father and daughter shot dead in Mississippi after alleged ambush during Facebook Marketplace purchase
Victor Gonzales, 42, and his daughter Serenity, 19, were found dead in their work truck in a rural area of ??Panola County
A father and daughter were shot and killed in Mississippi during what was reportedly a date arranged through Facebook Marketplace to buy a PlayStation 5, according to local media and family members.
The victims were identified as Victor Gonzales, of Victor, 42, an electrician, and his 19-year-old daughter, Serenity, were found dead inside their work truck on a rural road in Panola County on Sunday, two days after they were last seen at a job. According to WREG, investigators told a family member that tire tracks found at the scene might suggest they were trying to flee. “They were working that day, they were going to get lunch, and then they were going to pick up a PS5 from Facebook Marketplace,” said Jessie Waterman, 15, Victor’s son and Serenity’s younger brother, in a statement reported by WREG. The teenager said he didn’t know who they were planning to meet, but suspects “something must have happened with the transaction,” WATN reported. The family’s truck was found with mud on the sides on a rural road in Sardis, about 30 miles south of Memphis. Jessie noted that the vehicle was not normally in that condition. “It doesn’t normally have mud like that on the sides, and it looks like they were trying to flee the scene,” she said. The bodies were located after authorities responded to a report of a vehicle accident, WJTV reported. Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps declined to comment on the possibility of a robbery or ambush, as well as the theory that the victims were trying to escape someone. The family stated that Victor and Serenity had no known enemies. The investigation continues as authorities try to determine the circumstances of the double homicide that has shocked the community.
