Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are getting married in Venice in a three-day wedding that will cost millions of dollars, with high security and various celebrities
Tycoon Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez are about to celebrate a wedding that is shaping up to be the most luxurious and expensive of the year in Venice, Italy. The three-day ceremony has generated great expectations due to the staggering expenditure, estimated at several tens of millions of dollars, according to sources. The magnitude and complexity of the event, which includes multiple locations, an unprecedented logistical deployment, and an elite guest list.
The event will take place between June 26 and 28, with the main ceremony scheduled for Saturday, although the exact location is being kept secret. It is mentioned that it could be held on the private island of San Giorgio Maggiore or at the historic Arsenale, a former naval complex adapted for cultural events, which offers logistical and security advantages. The total cost of the wedding is estimated to be between $64 and $76 million, although other sources suggest more modest figures of between $10 and $20 million.
Due to local protests, the after-party was moved from the Scuola Grande della Misericordia to a shipyard outside the city, San Giorgio Maggiore, designed by the architect Andrea Palladio in the 16th century.
Accommodations are one of the most expensive items. The couple will stay at the exclusive Hotel Aman Venice, a 16th-century palace on the banks of the Grand Canal, famous for its suites that cost between $3,000 and $32,000 per night.
In addition, at least five luxury hotels have been reserved for approximately 200 guests, who will arrive by private jets, yachts, and helicopters. Guest airfare alone could add up to $1 million to $2 million, considering fuel, crew, and airport fees.
Bezos' $500 million superyacht Koru will be one of the wedding's centerpieces. The 417-foot yacht will be anchored in the Venetian Lagoon for the main celebrations.
While figures vary, spending per guest could exceed $50,000, with some estimates putting the total at between $10 million and $36 million, according to estimates by Brides.com. Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto regional government that includes Venice, said the three-day event could cost between $64 million and $76 million, according to The Globe and Mail.
In any case, it represents a tiny fraction of Bezos's fortune, estimated at more than $225 billion.
