Galilea Montijo reflects on the dark side of fame: 'It's very easy to say anything on social media'
The Mexican host recalled a bitter episode in which her son Mateo came to her defense against criticism
In a new wave of statements, Mexican host Galilea Montijo opened her heart like never before about the challenges she has faced throughout her 30-year career in television, arguing that it is increasingly common to be the target of criticism due to the power from social media.
It was during the most recent broadcast of the program “Netas Divinas" that the woman from Guadalajara opened up about the controversies in which she has been involved and the criticism she has received from internet users. There, she asserted that while she finds these opinions lacking in credibility, people in her inner circle are affected by what others will say. Regarding this, Galilea Montijo recalled the time when one of the opinions she shared during that production was taken out of context and ended up unleashing a wave of back-and-forth that her son Mateo had to confront. "One of the greatest pains I've ever felt is something that was taken out of context here, and my son got into a fight with someone to defend me. That's terrible because in a single clip that they took out of context, people see it at 10 or 11 in the morning, and we're discussing it in the context of a women's program, at a time that's already nighttime,” she explained to her colleagues on “Netas Divinas.” According to the 52-year-old celebrity, these kinds of negative reactions toward public figures have gained strength in recent years thanks to the reach of social media. “They take it completely out of “Context is missing because you don't know where we come from, what we asked, or if what we're saying is even a joke,” she added to her message. However, this isn't the first time Galilea Montijo has expressed her discontent with “cancellation” culture. In 2023, she criticized detractors for hiding behind a screen with hurtful comments. “Unfortunately, nowadays it's very easy to say anything through social media; anyone can have a television channel and it's not legally regulated.”“Regulated, there's no way. And then those snowballs," he lamented to the press at the time.
