Agneepath Scheme Protest: One person died in police firing on Friday on the protesters agitating against the Centre's new scheme ' Agneepath ' for recruitment in the army. Four other people were injured. Demonstrations against this plan first started in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, after which it spread to the southern state as well.

SCR sources said that the protesters raised slogans against the Center and demanded normal recruitment in the army. The protesters were around 300 to 350 in number. He said the identity of the protesters is yet to be ascertained. Significantly, demonstrations are being held in many parts of the country against the 'Agneepath' scheme. Under this new scheme, the recruitment of soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force will be done on contract basis for four years and they will be named 'Agniveer'.
