Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Arrested in Money Laundering Case Related to Liquor Scam
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in a money laundering case related to the city's alleged liquor scam sparks controversy. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party plans mass protests against the investigating agency’s actions. Senior AAP leaders and government officials join in the opposition.
In a significant development, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been apprehended in connection with a money laundering probe linked to Delhi's alleged liquor scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted extensive interrogations of CM Kejriwal prior to his arrest. Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi vehemently opposes the actions taken by the investigating agency. In response, AAP has declared plans to stage a mass fast and protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday. Notably, senior leaders of AAP, along with MPs and ministers from the Delhi government, are expected to participate in this demonstration. Similar protests are also slated to take place in AAP-ruled Punjab.
The allegations against CM Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to the liquor scam are grave. Prior to his arrest in March, the ED had extensively questioned him regarding the matter. Kejriwal had previously approached both the Supreme Court and the High Court to prevent the Enforcement Directorate from taking punitive actions. However, he withdrew his petition before the Supreme Court hearing, and his plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court. Subsequently, Kejriwal sought relief from the trial court to quash his arrest, but to no avail.
The arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sparked heightened political reactions, particularly from the Aam Aadmi Party. Senior AAP leader and Delhi government minister, Gopal Rai, strongly criticized the arrest and announced a mass fast scheduled for April 7 at Jantar Mantar. Rai urged all patriots to observe the fast in solidarity against Kejriwal's arrest.
In related developments, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh was granted bail by the Supreme Court, with the ED not opposing his plea. Singh, who was also implicated in the Delhi liquor scam case, secured his release. However, former Deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, was not as fortunate. Sisodia was remanded to judicial custody until April 18, facing the ramifications of the ongoing investigation.
