Amidst the violence in Manipur over reservation, students from different states studying there are pleading for help. Students are calling their families, pleading to get them out of the violence-hit areas. Meanwhile, the governments of Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya have said to evacuate their students by tomorrow morning.

According to the information, students of Arunachal Pradesh and other neighboring states who are studying in Manipur are calling and appealing to evacuate them from there. A girl student from Arunachal Pradesh, who is stuck in Manipur, told on phone from Imphal that all the five numbers given by the Manipur government are switched off. They are unable to contact anyone. Meanwhile, the governments of Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya have asked to evacuate all their students from the violence-hit areas of Manipur.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has said that fake videos on the security situation in Manipur, including the video of the attack on an Assam Rifles post, are being circulated by vested interests by inimical elements. Army requests all to trust content only through official and verified sources.

The march was organized after the Manipur High Court last month asked the state government to send a recommendation to the Center within four weeks on the demand for ST status by the Meitei community. A mob of armed men allegedly attacked members of the Meitei community during a march in Torbang area of Churachandpur district, police said. There were retaliatory attacks as well. Because of this, violence broke out in the entire state.

In view of the situation, curfew has been imposed in non-tribal dominated Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam and Bishnupur districts and tribal dominated Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts. Mobile internet services have been suspended across the state for five days with immediate effect, but broadband services are operational.

Amidst the violence, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called an emergency meeting of officials late on Thursday evening. In the meeting, the Chief Minister discussed the current situation in Manipur with the officials and instructed to keep an eye on the situation there. Appealed to Cornad to maintain peace. The Chief Minister informed that at present 200 children of Meghalaya are studying in various institutions of Manipur. Cornad said, he himself is monitoring the situation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday held two meetings through video conferencing and spoke to the Chief Ministers of Manipur and neighboring states over the violence in the northeastern state. The Manipur government issued shoot-at-sight orders in serious cases to deal with the law and order situation.

Internet services remained suspended in the wake of violence that broke out during the 'Tribal Solidarity March' called by the All Tribal Student's Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Wednesday. Sources said Amit Shah held two video conference meetings with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Union Home Secretary, IB Director and other concerned officials from the state and the Centre. Shah also spoke to the chief ministers of neighboring Manipur. Along with the Army, several columns of BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles have been deployed in the state and more deployment of security forces will be done, sources said.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the state. He said, 'I am deeply saddened by the violent incidents in Manipur in the last two days. I appeal to the people to maintain peace, harmony and amity. I appeal to the people not to participate in any act of violence or arson, and not to pay heed to any rumours. People should bring their concerns to the government and cooperate with the authorities. I express my condolences to those killed in the violence and wish the injured a speedy recovery.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh spoke on telephone with his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga and urged him to appeal for calm in the wake of the recent violence. Sources in the Mizoram Chief Minister's Office (CMO) told ANI that the two chief ministers spoke for over 45 minutes on the violent situation in the state of Manipur.

Appealing people to maintain peace, N Biren Singh said, "Apart from damage to properties, precious lives have been lost, which is very unfortunate." He said the violence was a result of "misunderstanding" in the society. “The state government is taking all steps to maintain law and order and additional paramilitary forces have been sought to protect the lives and property of the people,” he said. Central and state forces have been directed to take strict action against individuals and groups involved in the violence. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed about the helpline numbers for the people of Manipur and Nagaland in Imphal City.
