MiG-21 Aircraft: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to retire all squadrons of MiG-21 Bison aircraft by 2025. The recent fatal crashes of Soviet-era fighter jets are said to have raised safety concerns. In view of similar accidents of MiG-21, the Air Force has taken an important decision to exclude these aircraft from its arsenal.

According to media reports, the Indian Air Force is going to replace them with more capable fighter aircraft like the lightweight indigenous Sukhoi-30 (Su-30). Let us inform that after the accident of MiG-21 Bison Aircraft in Barmer on Thursday itself, the demand to retire these six-decade-old fighter planes started gaining momentum. In this episode, the Indian Air Force will retire another squad of MiG-21 Bison aircraft by 30 September and will also eliminate its remaining fleet by 2025. With this, the military authority has been forced to take the step of including LCA Tejas aircraft in its fleet.

Let us tell you that the MiG-21 has been the basis of the success of the Indian Air Force for a long time. However, despite this, the safety record of this aircraft has been very poor. It is noteworthy that on July 28, a MiG-21 Type 69 trainer aircraft crashed in Rajasthan yesterday. Wing Commander M Rana and Flight Lieutenant Advitia Bal were killed in this accident. According to IAF sources, 51 Squadron based out of Srinagar airbase is being number plated on 30 September. After this, only three squads of these aircraft will remain in service and they will also be phased out by the year 2025. Every year one of these aircraft will be squadron number plated.
