Vice President Election Voting Counting Result: Members of both the houses of Parliament will elect the next Vice President of the country on Saturday. There is a contest between NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar and opposition candidate Margaret Alva for the post. Given the strong position of the NDA in both the houses, Dhankhar's victory is being considered a mere formality.

The Trinamool Congress, which had announced to stay away from the Vice Presidential election, wrote a letter to Sishir Adhikari, father of Suvendu Adhikari. In this, Shishir has been asked not to vote in the Vice Presidential election. It is noteworthy that while Suvendu has joined the BJP, his father Shishir Adhikari, MP from Bengal, is still a part of TMC.

Voting has begun for the Vice Presidential election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first cast his vote by reaching the Parliament complex. 

Article 66 of the Constitution deals with the procedure for the election of the Vice-President. This election is done by proportional representation method. Voting is done through single transferable vote system. In simple words, the voter of this election has to vote on the basis of preference. For example, among the candidates present on the ballot paper, he writes his first choice as one, second choice two and so on as his priority number in front of other candidates. This whole process is done by secret ballot method. The voter has to write his preference only in the form of Roman numerals. For writing this also a special pen provided by the Election Commission has to be used.

In the Vice Presidential election, 233 elected MPs of Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated MPs in Rajya Sabha and 543 MPs of Lok Sabha can cast their votes. A total of 788 such people can cast their vote. Due to the dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, at present four seats under the quota of Jammu and Kashmir are vacant in the Rajya Sabha. 

One seat is also vacant due to the resignation of the Chief Minister of Tripura. Thus the current number of elected members is only 228. At the same time, three seats of nominated MPs are also vacant. In this way, the total number of members in the Electoral College is currently 780. 

Voting will continue from 10 am to 5 pm today. After that the votes will be counted. The results will come only on August 6. The new Vice President will be sworn in on August 11.

According to the figures so far, 84 members of Congress, 34 of DMK, nine of NCP, six of RJD, six of Samajwadi Party, 16 of TRS, 10 of Aam Aadmi Party, three members of JMM can vote for Alva. . In this way 168 votes can easily be got in favor of Alva.

Margaret Alva, the Vice Presidential candidate from the opposition, has got the support of Congress, NCP, Left, National Conference, Samajwadi Party, DMK, RJD, Aam Aadmi Party, TRS, JMM. The Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction has also supported Alva. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had also participated in the nomination process of Alva. However, most of the Shiv Sena members are with the NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar. 

Talking about both the candidates, 71-year-old Dhankhar has been a BJP leader and comes from the Jat community of Rajasthan. He was the Governor of West Bengal until he was made the Vice Presidential candidate. At the same time, 80-year-old Margaret Alva, the opposition candidate, comes from Karnataka and has been a senior Congress leader. The tenure of current Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu ends on August 10. 

Both the houses of Parliament together have 788 members. At present 8 seats are vacant in the Rajya Sabha. The value of each member's vote is one. That is, out of 780 votes, whoever gets 391 votes will win. The BJP has 303 members in the Lok Sabha, while it has 91 members in the Rajya Sabha. This means that the BJP is able to make its candidate win without the help of any other party. Nominated members also vote in this.

Apart from the NDA, Jagdeep Dhankhar has also been declared support by the Biju Janata Dal, YSR Congress, AIADMK, Telugu Desam Party and BSP. With this, his vote count can go beyond 65 percent.
