West Bengal Weather Alert: Heavy rain alert has been issued in West Bengal from 8th August (Monday). The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert. Since this morning, the sky of South Bengal, especially Kolkata, is covered with dark clouds and it is raining.

The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the next few days in various districts of the state including the metropolis and the fishermen have been banned from venturing into the sea. According to the information, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains between August 8 and 11 in various districts of South Bengal including the metropolis.

Around Sunday (August 7), a low pressure area is expected to form and intensify over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. Due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain with strong winds reaching 50 kmph during August 8 to 11.

In the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, it has been said that the fishermen of West Bengal have been advised not to go into the sea till August 11. Those who have already gone into the deep sea have been asked to return by the night of 7 August.

Thousands of trawlers, who had set out in search of Hilsa from Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas, have to return due to fear of low pressure and bad weather. If fishermen are to be believed, their problem is increasing due to frequent natural calamities like this during the Hilsa season. Fishermen say that if the weather remains like this, then the fishermen will have to face a lot of loss in this entire season of Hilsa.

A major part of the people of the Sundarbans region is dependent on fishing for their livelihood. The fishermen of the Sundarbans region including Kakdweep, Namkhana, Fraserganj, Sagardweep, Patharpratima, Raidighi are upset because the weather is again unfavourable. Once again, due to low pressure and storm, the fisheries department has banned the fishermen from going to sea from 8 to 11 August.

Guidelines have been sent in this regard to various fishermen organizations of the Sundarbans region. Fishermen organizations have also started taking necessary steps in this regard. Fishing trawlers already in the sea have been asked to take shelter in the harbor or any nearby safe place by Saturday night.

Let us inform that a low pressure condition is expected to form in the northwest side of the Bay of Bengal and in the west-central region from August 7. Along with this, strong winds with a speed of 50 kmph are also expected in the coastal areas of the state from August 8 to 11. In such a situation, the fishermen have been banned from going to sea till August 11.
