Pete Hegseth defines the air strike against Iran as 'the deadliest in history'
The Secretary of Defense warns Iran that the United States could escalate its offensive and completely destroy its navy
Pete Hegseth, the top official at the Department of Defense, praised the performance of the American military personnel who participated in the offensive against Iran, which he described as "the deadliest air operation in history" history.”
During the early hours of Saturday, President Donald Trump ordered the implementation of an attack plan aimed at ending the regime that had ruled Iran for three decades.
The Republican's argument was that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, never committed to ensuring that the nation under his leadership would abandon a uranium enrichment program aimed at developing nuclear weapons.
In fact, in June of last year, the US president had already overseen another attack to destroy military facilities in the Islamic nation where it was allegedly intended to accelerate the enrichment of the material necessary to create at least one nuclear bomb.
Although some negotiations took place between US and Iranian diplomats, the agreement sought by the White House did not materialize, leading to a powerful airstrike that killed Iran's supreme leader, as well as several of his close associates and even some of his family members.
Regarding this, Pete Hegseth shared a message on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, where he justified the offensive as the only option to thwart Iranian plans.
“For nearly 50 years, Iran has attacked and killed Americans, always seeking the most powerful weapons in the world to further its radical cause. Last night, unlike any president before him, President Trump began to tackle this cancer.
We will not tolerate powerful missiles aimed at the American people. Those missiles will be destroyed, along with Iran’s missile production. The Iranian navy will be destroyed. And, as President Trump has said his entire life, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. The United States did not start this conflict,But we will finish it,” he wrote. In fact, from the Secretary of Defense's perspective, the mission carried out in Tehran can be considered the best executed and most lethal, without precedent. “At the direction of President Trump, the Department of War initiated OPERATION EPIC FURY, the most lethal, complex, and precise air operation in history. The Iranian regime had its chance, but refused to compromise, and is now suffering the consequences. Our warriors are the best in the world and are fully committed to our objectives,” he emphasized.
