Alexis Vega and the sacrifice he was going to make to stay at Chivas
Alexis Vega confessed that he never wanted to leave Chivas and that he would even have accepted a salary reduction, but now he is experiencing a great period at Toluca
Some loves kill, and Alexis Vega's love for Chivas was so great that to avoid leaving the popular "Sacred Flock" he was willing to make the sacrifice of accepting a salary reduction, but after being transferred to Toluca, that initiative is now just a memory. He revived his story in an interview with ESPN.
Vega arrived in Guadalajara with the intention of boosting his image and career, but fate had other plans for him. His talent and youth couldn't overcome his desire to have fun like any young man with financial means, leading to inconsistent performances, injuries, and off-field distractions that labeled him a rebellious and undisciplined player.
He confessed this in the interview with ESPN, explaining that his departure from Guadalajara wasn't his own decision, but rather the result of a resounding "no" from the management. This caused him to experience very difficult months as a player and led him to consider desperate measures, including lowering his salary to demonstrate commitment to the Guadalajara management and his desire to make amends for his mistakes, but the refusal was absolute.
"I experienced very sad moments in my last stint at Chivas. I was willing to stay with a reduced salary... I wanted to do everything to stay, but they didn't give me the opportunity," Vega said with a an apparent grimace of nostalgia.
But they say that after the storm comes the calm and the rebirth of things, as happened with Alexis Vega when he arrived at Toluca and became the moral leader of the team managed by the Argentine Antonio Mohamed, which has achieved a historic back-to-back championship.
He was pressed during those unpleasant moments, and Vega acknowledged that his mistakes were his main obstacle with Chivas: “But there was always the intention to redeem my image, and that's why I proposed lowering my salary. I think there was no better intention than to stay, but it wasn't possible.”
As will be recalled, Chivas ultimately closed the door on him due to all the external pressure generated by the disciplinary actions of Alexis Vega and Cristian “Chicote” Calderon, who were reported for violating Guadalajara's internal code while in Toluca.
The Family Blow
The most difficult thing Alexis Vega experienced wasn't on a sporting or personal level, but on a family level. His daughter had to endure constant goodbyes for three months, and telling her they were leaving Guadalajara was one of the most painful moments he's ever faced as a father, especially because of the bonds formed in childhood at school and with friends.
“My daughter was so happy there… when I told her we were moving to another city, that's when I felt that sense of knowing it was my decision, but that I was thinking more about my family,” the player emphasized. He has put that emotional turmoil behind him and is focused on achieving success with Toluca.
Now, fate has placed him in a privileged position, and although he is currently experiencing some uncertainty due to the surgery he underwent to correct discomfort in his knee after experiencing the glory of scoring the penalties that gave him the back-to-back championships with Toluca.
Thus, the hard blows that life has dealt him due to his own mistakes have allowed him to build an armor that has him ready to continue fighting for a place on the Mexican national team's World Cup roster, where he hopes to appear fully recovered.
