The preference to unify the titles against the WBA super champion responds to the historical achievements that he has recently accumulated. In an exclusive interview granted to the prestigious specialized magazine The Ring, José Benavídez Sr. broke down the reasons why the camp prioritizes negotiations with Bivol, despite the risk involved with the other monarch of the category.

"We respect Beterbiev. He is a great fighter, but our preference is Bivol. He beat Canelo Álvarez, he beat Zurdo Ramírez and defeating him would give David the opportunity to become undisputed champion," declared José Benavídez Sr., immediately recognizing the other variable in the scenario: "But Beterbiev is the most dangerous fighter. We would love to face him next. We can make it happen whenever they want," the coach pointed out to the cited source.
