Paco Jemez arrives in the Premier League: West Ham adds him as Nuno Espirito Santo's assistant
The Spanish coach joins the Hammers' coaching staff in the midst of the fight to avoid relegation
West Ham United confirmed a key move in their sporting structure this Thursday by announcing the signing of Spaniard Paco Jemez as Nuno Espirito Santo's assistant coach, in a bid to strengthen the bench at one of the most delicate moments of the Premier League season.
The arrival of Jemez's move to West Ham marks his arrival in English football, following an extensive coaching career in Europe, Mexico, and the Middle East.
Paco Jemez, international experience for the West Ham bench
With a past as a professional footballer, Paco Jemez began his coaching career in 2007. His most recognized period was his five seasons at the helm of Rayo Vallecano, where he instilled an attacking style of play and a very defined tactical approach.
Subsequently, the Spanish coach expanded his experience managing in Mexico and Iran, experiences that now support his arrival in the Premier League, one of the most demanding leagues in the world.
Nuno Espirito Santo strengthens his coaching staff
The addition of Paco Jemez comes after the hiring of Nuno Espirito Santo as the new West Ham manager, following his departure from Nottingham Forest due to disagreements with the board.
The London club is going through a difficult period in the table: they are in the relegation zone, seven points from safety, and haven't won a Premier League match since November 8th, in matchday 11 of the championship.
Board's confidence despite the critical moment
Despite the pressure surrounding the managerial position, Jemez's arrival is interpreted as a clear sign of confidence from the West Ham board in the project led by Espirito Santo.
The Portuguese manager's dismissal was the subject of rumors after the recent home defeat against Nottingham Forest, although the atmosphere calmed down somewhat after the FA Cup victory against Queens Park Rangers.
A key FA Cup win eases the tension
The cup victory came thanks to a goal from Argentinian Taty Castellanos in extra time, a result that allowed West Ham to stay alive in the tournament and gain some breathing room before resuming their fight for Premier League survival.
With Paco Jemez now part of the coaching staff, the Hammers are looking for a tactical and morale boost that will allow them to reverse their negative trend and climb out of the relegation zone in the coming weeks.
