The UNAM Pumas announce the departure of Efraín Juárez
The Pumas board revealed that they held a meeting with Efraín Juárez. From the Mexican team they cut off the Juárez process
The novel between the UNAM Pumas and Efraín Juárez ended with a not very attractive ending for the club's fans. Efraín Juárez ended his relationship with the Auriazul team. Juárez leaves without winning any title in Mexico.
The reports spoke about the possible departure of Efraín Juárez due to his links with European football. The Mexican strategist would have been on the radar of a couple of clubs on the Old Continent. In a meeting with the board, both would have determined that the best thing for the institution is for Juárez to step aside.
"The National University Club informs that Efraín Juárez, after speaking with the board about his departure, has concluded his time as technical director of our first team. We wish him success in his future personal and professional projects," says the university team's statement.
In this sense, the university club cuts off a process that seemed like it would begin to bear fruit. The UNAM Pumas had just been finalists for Clausura 2026. After this announcement, the leaders stated that they will begin the search for coaches to lead a new process with the club.
"At Pumas we will continue working with the same determination to achieve the sporting objectives demanded by our history and great fans. In the coming days, the appointment of the new coach will be announced, as well as the plans for the Apertura 2026 tournament," the statement added.
Efraín Juárez in Pumas
After directing Atlético Nacional de Medellín, Efraín Juárez commanded his first process in Liga MX. The Mexican strategist left good impressions in his last tournament with the club.
In general terms, Efraín Juárez directed 59 games on the UNAM Pumas bench. The Mexican left a balance of 22 wins, 21 draws and 16 losses.
Juárez leaves the club after signing the best tournament in a regular campaign in the club's history. The Pumas got 36 points (they surpassed the 35 points obtained in the 2015 Apertura). The Pumas reached the final of the tournament, but fell in the final against Cruz Azul.
