Metro Los Angeles celebrates Transportation Equity Day with free rides
Metro Los Angeles honors the legacy of Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama
As is tradition, to celebrate the birthday of Rosa Parks, a civil rights legend, Metro Los Angeles is offering its passengers free rides this Wednesday, February 4, for Transportation Equity Day.
The opportunity to have free rides on its networks of Trucks, trains, and bicycles serve to commemorate the courageous act of Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama. Her action, which led to the Montgomery bus boycott, sparked the civil rights movement across the country, culminating in the US Supreme Court ruling in 1956 that segregation in transportation was unconstitutional.
