The Trinamool Congress retaliated, claiming that the rule of law does not exist in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and party leaders should focus on these states. Addressing a party function on Tuesday night in Bankura district, Khan said, "The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed. The murder of BJP workers has become a daily affair. I want to assure you that by December this year, the state will be under President's rule.

The video of his speech has gone viral on social media. Prior to Khan's remarks, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and Union minister Babul Supriyo also demanded the imposition of President's rule in West Bengal. On Khan's statement, senior MP of Trinamool Congress Saugata Roy said that the BJP should focus on Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh where the rule of law does not exist.
He said, 'BJP is trying to raise the issue of law and order to discredit the government. The state has a better law and order situation than the Left Front regime. In an interview to a private news channel on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the law and order situation in West Bengal is not good.
When asked about the demand of BJP leaders to impose President's rule in the state, Shah said that political party leaders can demand President's rule, but the Government of India would work on the basis of constitutional rules, ground conditions and Governor's report.
