Today is National Education Day. The birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India, is considered as National Education Day. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born on 11 November 1888. He was the Minister of Education from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, commonly known as Maulana Azad and honored with the Bharat Ratna, was commemorated on his birthday by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) to commemorate his contribution in the field of education. The announcement of the form was announced on 11 September 2008. After this, National Education Day is celebrated every year from 11 November 2008 to the present day. Today various campaigns and programs are being organized across the country so that there is more spread of awareness about education among people and people are attracted towards education.

National Education Day 2020: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's major contribution in education sector
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first Education Minister of independent India and his tenure was 11 years. He promoted research in Eastern Learning and Literature and established three institutes for the development of fine arts - Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi. He got a large-scale collection of technical terms of various fields in Hindi. Maulana Azad has formed several important boards / commissions, among which the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Kharagpur Institute of Higher Education, The University Education Commission, The Secondary Education Commission are the heads. IISc, School of Architecture and Planning, Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT Kharagpur were also founded by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
