Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) took custody of Mumbai Indians all rounder Krunal Pandya on Thursday on charges of possessing undisclosed gold and other valuables. Directorate sources said that in order to return from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), cricketer Krunal Pandya was detained at Mumbai International Airport.
Krunal is the elder brother of Indian team all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Krunal was returning to participate in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They landed at the airport around five o'clock in the evening. He was then restrained by Directorate officials. Sources said that Krunal had bought precious items including gold chains abroad. The price of these goods was more than legally allowed to bring goods from abroad. When informed about this, he said that he was not aware of the law.
He apologized for this and proposed to pay the fine. He also assured that they would not make such a mistake in future. He was then let go. It is notable that this year the Indian Premier League was held in the United Arab Emirates.
Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma defeated Delhi Capitals to win this year's title. This was Mumbai Indians' fifth title win. Earlier this team had won the tournaments of 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Krunal has played 71 matches in IPL for Mumbai Indians so far. He was voted Player of the Match in the 2017 final.
