In Gujarat, about 25 thousand candidates are trying their luck in the local body elections, while about 43 thousand personnel are deployed in the security system, including two thousand top police officers. As many as 2276 people are in the fray for the 576 seats of the six metropolitan municipalities, elections will be held on Sunday, while 31 districts and 231 tehsil panchayats, and 81 municipalities will be elected on February 28. 63209 personnel have been deployed to conduct the elections. Gujarat Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia said that elections will be held in Ahmedabad Surat Vadodara Rajkot Jamnagar and Bhavnagar Mahanagar Municipality on February 21.
The state government has deputed around 43,000 personnel, policemen, paramilitary forces, and home guards for security in cities and villages. Around two thousand police officers will supervise the security system. 44 companies of SRP have also been deployed here. Police have seized 48282 licensed and illegal weapons from across the state so far. Apart from this, 25800 people with criminal tendencies have been arrested. The police have issued warrants to 18175 people. Police seized illicit liquor worth about Rs 1 crore in the metropolitan municipality area, while illegal liquor worth more than seven crores from the district panchayat and the municipality. Police seized 7.50 crore cash and vehicles from the metropolitan areas during the election code of conduct, while 15.89 crore cash and vehicles were seized from the district panchayat and municipal areas. There are 2276 candidates for 576 councilor posts in six metropolitan municipalities including Ahmedabad.
CM Vijay Rupani to vote in PPE kit
On Sunday evening, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will vote at booth number two in the Anil Mandir temple of Ward 10, Rajkot, wearing a PPE kit at 5 pm in the last hour of polling. Rupani is being treated at U.N. Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad due to corona infection and the commission has approved him to vote by wearing a PPE kit. BJP President CR Patil along with his family will vote on Sunday morning at Ward 20 booth number 94 of Mishra School in Surat Khatodara.
Maximum 8175 candidates of BJP
Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation will vote on February 21 and election results will be declared on February 23. While the results for 31 Zilla Panchayat, 231 Tehsil Panchayat, 81 Municipality will be declared on February 28 and election results on Go March. In this election, 8175 candidates of BJP are in the fray, while 7799 of Congress, 2097 of AAP, 55 of AIMIM, 2540 of Independents, 860 other candidates are in the fray. Apart from this, by-elections are being held on many seats.
