Foot bridge collapsed in Mumbai. Accident killed 5 and injured 31

Mumbai CST bridge collapse Today, large portion of the bridge fell on Dr DN Road

Mumbai: The CST bridge collapsed where 5 people were killed and 31 others are injured. This happened after a portion of a foot overbridge that connected the northern-end of Mumbai’s nodal Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station to BT Lane near Anzuman Islam School collapsed, on Thursday evening. Two of the dead people have been identified as Apoorva Prabhu and Ranjana Tambe, and the nurses on their way to report for duty at GT Hospital.

Police officials said that the incident happened around 7.30 pm when a large chunk of the bridge fell on Dr DN Road affecting its northern traffic on JJ flyover during the time when the traffic is maximum. Readers should know that this is the second major collapse in last one year. Last year, Andheri’s G K Gokhale Road overbridge collapsed, killing two people. Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh has been sanctioned and announced to each family of the deceased person, while a sum of Rs 50,000 will be provided to each injured, as said by the CM, Devendra Fadnavis.

The structural audit of this bridge was done recently and is maintained by the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation and the structural audit had just proposed minor repair to the foot over Bridge and nothing else.
