The Permanent Account Number (PAN) and the Aadhaar card has been extended by the income tax returns to December 31, a Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) of Ministry of Finance order said. This was earlier deadline to link PAN-Aadhaar was on September 30.
In order of file income tax returns the CBDT had earlier made it mandatory to link 12-digit Aadhaar number with the 10-digit PAN card The agency had also issued a deadline for the PAN-Aadhaar linking upto September 30. The last date is now has been extended to December 31.
The government had on March 31 extended the last date to link PAN card with Aadhaar card to file the income tax returns by six months till September 30, as per an official statement.On Saturday the CBDT again extended the last date by another three months till December 31.
This is the seventh time the government has extended the deadline for individuals to link their PAN with their Aadhaar card.
Section 139 AA (2) of the Income Tax Act says that every person having PAN as on July 1, 2017, and eligible to obtain Aadhaar, must intimate his Aadhaar number to the tax authorities.
