Bhopal: 22 rebel MLAs of Congress who resigned from Madhya Pradesh Assembly and toppled the Kamal Nath government joined BJP on Saturday. BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya gave this information. He along with rebel MLA Jyotiraditya Scindia met BJP President JP Nadda who welcomed his decision to join the saffron party.
There is a possibility that BJP will field him in the assembly by-election to be held after his resignation. These MLAs, considered pro-Scindia, met Nadda at his residence.
Vijayvargiya was also present on this occasion. The Speaker of the Assembly accepted the resignation of 16 of these rebel MLAs on Thursday. In such a situation, when it became clear that the Kamal Nath government was losing its majority, then the next day Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced his resignation.
The Speaker of the Assembly had already accepted the resignation of six of them. Former Union Minister Scindia recently left the Congress and joined the BJP. There is a possibility that BJP can claim to form a government in Madhya Pradesh. The Election Commission will announce the dates for the by-elections after the crisis caused by the Coronavirus is over.
Significantly, Kamal Nath resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Friday after a political campaign for 18 days in power in Madhya Pradesh. After Kamal Nath's resignation, BJP is constantly trying to form a government.
What is the current situation, who has how many seats
Madhya Pradesh Assembly has a total of 230 seats. Currently, two are vacant due to the demise of two of these MLAs (one Congress and one BJP), while the resignations of 22 rebel Congress MLAs have been accepted. Thus, at this time only 206 MLAs are left. Of these, the Bharatiya Janata Party has a strength of 107, while the Congress has 92 MLAs. Apart from these, there are four independents, two BSP and one SP MLA. At present, the magic figure of the majority is 104, which is with the BJP.
