Following the accusations, Kevin Spacey declares that he is homeless and faces a financial crisis
The actor, acquired in court, describes his financial situation as
Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner, is at a turning point in his life and career. In a recent interview with the Telegraph, the 64-year-old actor made a shocking revelation: he claims to be homeless. “I live in hotels, I live in Airbnb accommodations, I go where the work is,” I have stated. “I literally have no home, that's what I'm trying to explain.” This statement reflects the personal and financial consequences of the past seven years, a period marked by multiple accusations of sexual misconduct that began in 2017. Although he denied the accusations at the time and came out as gay, the shadow of these charges lingered. However, Spacey was acquitted of sexual abuse charges in New York in 2022 and of sexual assault in London in 2023.
“An overwhelming cost”
“The costs of the last seven years have been astronomical. I've had very little income and a lot of expenses,” the actor stated, describing his financial situation as “bad” and acknowledging that bankruptcy was discussed, although it never materialized.
The crisis reached a breaking point when his Baltimore home, where he had lived since 2012, was repossessed. In an appearance on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' in June, Spacey revealed: "They're going to auction off my house. So I have to go back to Baltimore and put all my things in storage. I don't really know where I'm going to live now."
“You get over it,” he told the Telegraph. "In a way, I feel like I'm back to square one, meaning I was simply going where the work was. Everything is put away, and I hope that if things continue to improve, I can decide where I want to settle down again." His professional comeback, although slow, is already underway. The actor reveals that in the last three years he has made six films, including 'Holiguards,' which he directed himself. However, a return to a major Hollywood studio remains the big challenge. Spacey is confident that moment will come. But he believes the industry is waiting for a kind of “authorization” from a high-ranking figure. “We're in contact with very influential people who want me to go back to work,” he said.“And that will happen in due time.” He even went further, noting, "I think if Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call Evan (Lowenstein, his agent) tomorrow, it'll all be over. I'll be incredibly honored and delighted when a talent of that caliber calls me." A hint that the winds might be turning in his favor came in May 2024, when Spacey was once again the center of attention on a prestigious stage. He attended the Cannes Film Festival to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Better World Fund. During his acceptance speech, as reported by Variety, the actor declared: “I am not angry, bitter, or resentful, but more present, more loving, more understanding, and more forgiving than I have ever been in my life.”
