Barcelona footballer Aitana Bonmati and Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis are the winners of the awards for the best European athletes of 2025, granted by the International Sports Press Association Sports (AIPS).

Both athletes repeat as winners, having also received this recognition in the 2024 edition, consolidating their dominance in European sport.

Bonmati and Duplantis, three-time champions in the elite of European sport

This award represents the third in Armand Duplantis' career, who was previously awarded in 2022, while for Aitana Bonmati it is her third consecutive recognition, having been chosen since 2023 without interruption.

The vote included the participation of representatives from 43 European countries affiliated with AIPS, which reinforces the prestige and reach of the award within the international sporting landscape.

Duplantis surpasses Carlos Alcaraz and Dembele in the men's vote

In the men's category, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis beat the Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who finished in second place, and French footballer Ousmane Dembele, who completed the podium.

During 2025, the Swedish athlete had a historic season, breaking the world pole vault record four times, most recently at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September. In that competition, Duplantis set the new record at 6.30 meters, winning his third consecutive world title.

Aitana Bonmati beats Sabalenka and Femke Bol

In the women's category, Aitana Bonmati beat Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka and Dutch athlete Femke Bol in the voting, reaffirming her status as one of the great figures in world sport.
