Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Chennai train journey will become easier, trains will be able to run at full speed
The Economic Affairs Committee chaired by Prime Minister Modi approved two multitracking projects of Indian Railways, which will ensure faster passenger and goods transport.
There is good news for passengers traveling by train from Delhi to Mumbai and Delhi to Chennai. Trains will run at full speed on this route and will not stop unnecessarily on the way. The central government approved two multitracking projects. These projects, covering four districts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, will expand the existing network of Indian Railways by about 176 km. Under these multi-tracking projects, connectivity will increase to about 784 villages, which have a population of about 19.74 lakh.
According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Ratlam-Nagda third and fourth lines and Wardha-Balharshah fourth line will be built. The total estimated cost of these projects is about Rs 3,399 crore and they will be completed by 2029-30. These projects are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, made possible through integrated planning. This will provide seamless connectivity for passengers, goods and services.
Logistics will benefit
These projects are essential routes for transportation of coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agricultural commodities and petroleum products. Capacity enhancement works will result in additional freight traffic of 18.40 MTPA (million tonnes per annum). Railways are an environment-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transport, which will help achieve climate goals and reduce the country's logistics cost, oil imports and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This reduction will be 99 crore kg, which is equivalent to planting 4 crore trees.
Better for the environment
These initiatives will improve travel convenience, contribute to reducing logistics costs, oil imports and carbon dioxide emissions, thereby strengthening sustainable and efficient rail operations. The projects will also enhance logistics efficiency by increasing line capacity on important routes for transportation of containers, coal, cement, agricultural commodities and other goods. These reforms are expected to lead to better utilization of supply chains, thereby boosting economic growth.
Railway traffic will be reduced
Increased line capacity will significantly increase mobility, thereby improving operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. These multi-tracking proposals are all set to streamline operations and reduce congestion.
