California proclaims December 1 as World AIDS Day
Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his solidarity with the 40 million people infected with HIV; Los Angeles County joins in the commemoration
In expressing its solidarity with the more than 40 million people worldwide living with HIV, the government of California proclaimed December 1 as World AIDS Day.
In a statement, Governor Gavin Newsom said that this is a day for people to become aware of the impact of the AIDS epidemic, and the work that still needs to be done in a crisis that has gone unnoticed for too long.
“This year, with the federal government willfully ignoring World AIDS Day, we are facing a shocking return to that dangerous silence, and this follows funding freezes that are expected to result in millions more AIDS cases worldwide,” the governor said.
