The price of the dollar in Mexico today, August 4, 2026, had a considerable drop in value, after Mexican monetary policy shows stability and is combined with the strong expectation that peace negotiations between the United States and Iran will be completed satisfactorily, which benefits emerging currencies such as the peso.
During the opening of this Tuesday, August 4, the US dollar was quoted at $17.26 Mexican pesos, a decrease of 0.43% compared to the previous close of $17.34 pesos, according to Dow Jones data. Meanwhile, the average price of the dollar in Mexico today stands at $17.30 pesos per unit.
The behavior of the US currency also reflects a downward trend in broader periods. In the last seven days it accumulates a decrease of 0.99%, while compared to the same period last year it registers a drop of 7.78%, which confirms the strengthening that the Mexican peso has maintained against the dollar during recent months.
This Tuesday's movement comes after a session with slight gains for the Mexican currency. On Monday, August 3, the peso advanced 0.04% against the US dollar in a week marked by market expectations regarding the monetary policy decisions of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
The Bank of Mexico reported that the official closing on Monday, August 3, was $17.3241 pesos per dollar, a figure obtained from the average of banking operations carried out during the day. However, because the exchange rate fluctuates constantly during the day, the price of the dollar against the peso ended the session around $17.33 pesos per unit in the markets.
Regarding the recent behavior of the exchange market, the dollar maintains a negative trend that has been consolidated during the last day. Furthermore, volatility currently stands at 4.07%, a level considerably lower than the benchmark index of 7.44%, reflecting a more stable environment for the exchange rate.
Banxico also announced that the FIX exchange rate, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), was established at $17.3317 pesos per dollar for this Tuesday, August 4, 2026. This exchange rate is used as a reference for different contracts, financial operations and official procedures in Mexico. Its calculation is made based on the average of the quotes observed in the wholesale exchange market during banking business days and is published at noon of the previous business day.
On the other hand, the exchange rate applicable for the payment of obligations denominated in dollars was set at $17.3288 pesos for each US currency. This value serves as a reference when a person or company must settle obligations originally agreed in foreign currency within the national territory.
