Ordering groceries from your cell phone no longer means limiting yourself to large national chains, as Uber Eats announced the incorporation of new regional supermarkets to its platform in the United States, a strategy with which it seeks to offer more shopping options to consumers and strengthen its presence in the grocery delivery market. With this expansion, users will be able to order fresh products, food, basic household items and prepared meals directly from local stores through the Uber Eats, Uber and Postmates applications.

Which supermarkets are integrated into Uber Eats?

The platform incorporated five chains with a strong presence in different regions of the country:

With these alliances, Uber Eats expands its coverage in states such as Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and North Carolina.

More options to do the supermarket without leaving home

Users will be able to buy practically the same things they would find in a physical visit to these stores. The platform offers access to fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, pantry products, cleaning supplies, prepared meals and other daily consumption products. In addition, it will be possible to choose between same-day deliveries or schedule them in advance, while order tracking can be done in real time from the application. For Uber One subscribers, the company confirmed that free shipping will continue to be available on supermarket orders that meet the program requirements.

Uber's bet goes beyond prepared food

Although Uber Eats was born as a platform focused on the delivery of food from restaurants, in recent years it has expanded its offering to everyday purchases. The objective now is to become a marketplace where users can solve different needs from a single application, including grocery shopping. Hashim Amin, Uber's director of supermarkets and retail for North America, explained that many consumers prefer to buy in establishments that they have known for years and that are part of their communities. According to the manager, these alliances allow regional supermarkets to have a new channel of digital sales, while customers maintain the possibility of purchasing trusted products without changing stores.

This is how the service works

Placing a grocery order is similar to ordering food through Uber Eats. Users must enter the Supermarket section in the Uber Eats application or the Stores section within the Uber app. They then select the nearest participating supermarket, add the products to the cart, choose whether they want immediate or scheduled delivery and can follow the order's journey until it arrives at their home.

A market that continues to grow

Grocery delivery has become one of the fastest-growing segments within e-commerce, driven by consumers looking to save time and receive their purchases without leaving home.
