Drug trafficker wanted by the US for sending drugs in boats was captured in Costa Rica
Andrey Rojas Porras, alias "Pirulo", transported large shipments of drugs to the United States using speedboats, semi-submersibles, fishing boats and aircraft.
Costa Rican authorities arrested Andrey Rojas Porras, also known as “Pirulo,” who is requested for extradition by the United States for his alleged participation in an international organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking.
The capture was carried out in Puerto Viejo de Limón through an operation coordinated by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) and the Public Ministry.
According to Costa Rican authorities, the 40-year-old man was wanted by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas for the crimes of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine.
According to the US investigation, Rojas Porras would have integrated a criminal structure dedicated to the transfer of large shipments of drugs from South America to US territory.
The network allegedly used various routes and means of transportation, including speed boats, semi-submersible vessels, fishing boats, aircraft, and land vehicles to move cocaine from Ecuador and Colombia through Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico to the United States.
Images released by the authorities show that “Pirulo” was transported by helicopter after his arrest, amidst a strong security device. The arrest warrant against him had been issued since November 2025.
With this arrest, Rojas Porras becomes the 22nd extraditable arrested in Costa Rica under the mechanism that allows the extradition of Costa Rican citizens wanted for international drug trafficking crimes.
