Lizzo Explains Why She Left Ozempic and Chose Another Path to Lose Weight
Since beginning her weight loss journey, Lizzo has stated that she found her own methods to do so.
Singer and Grammy winner Lizzo recently opened up about her experience with GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, known for their use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
During an interview on the 'Just Trish' podcast with host Trisha Paytas, the 37-year-old artist explained why she decided to abandon the use of these drugs and focus on a more personal approach to achieving her wellness goals.
“I’ve tried everything,” Lizzo confessed in the episode published on June 19. While she admitted that Ozempic “works because you eat less,” she also noted that if a person can change their mindset and habits on their own, the result can be the same.
“If you eat well, you feel full. But if you can do it on your own and control your mind, it’s the same thing,” she explained.
Lizzo is documenting her weight loss
Lizzo has been documenting her transformation process since 2023 and attributes her real health strides to a crucial change in her diet: going vegan and including meat again. “What disappointed me was not being vegan,” she said, explaining that during her vegan years, she ate a lot of processed foods, like fake meats, bread, and rice, which didn't satisfy her. Her new diet based on more whole foods has made a difference. “When I started eating whole foods, like beef, chicken, and fish, I felt full and didn't expand my stomach by eating fake things that didn't fill me up,” the “Truth Hurts” singer explained. Regarding the use of medications like Ozempic, Lizzo asked for empathy and respect for those who choose this path, rejecting criticism that calls its use a “trap.” “It's not easy. It's like a drug to help someone with something they're struggling with,” she said. “I think people… it’s their way of being fatphobic when they tell someone they’re being cheated on.”
Her message echoes that of other public figures like Rosie O'Donnell, who recently shared her positive experience with Mounjaro, another GLP-1 medication, on Instagram, showing the changes she’s made since late 2022.
“I can’t believe this is me now,” the comedian wrote, accompanying her post with the hashtags #mounjaro, #weightloss, and #bodydysmorphia.
In a track loaded with opinions, Lizzo continues to promote authenticity, respect for personal choices, and the fight against fatphobia, remembering that every body has its own path.
