Canelo Álvarez made a juicy bet in favor of Mexico for the start of the 2026 World Cup
It is not the first time that Canelo Álvarez risks money to support his country's team
A few hours before the ball rolls at the opening of the World Cup, Mexican boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez decided to support the local team with a large-scale financial transaction, prior to his debut in the long-awaited event.
The athlete used his digital platforms to announce the details of his play on the first day of the tournament.

The publication of the Guadalajara athlete revealed an investment of 100 thousand dollars in the Kalshi predictions platform. Canelo Álvarez's forecast points exclusively to a victory for the Mexican team against the South African team in the opening match at the Mexico City Stadium.
The platform's computer system gives a 70 percent probability of success to the selection led by Javier Aguirre. “Ready for tomorrow with Kalshi,” Canelo Álvarez wrote on his social networks, accompanying the text with Mexican flags that confirm his expectation of obtaining a profit close to 40 thousand dollars.
History of World Cup betting
It is not the first opportunity in which Canelo Álvarez puts money at stake to support the national team in international tournaments. During the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the boxer made an investment of 10 thousand dollars under the prediction that Mexico would reach the final and win the championship.
That financial move did not materialize because the team, under the technical direction of Gerardo Martino, was eliminated in the first phase of the tournament. On this occasion, Canelo Álvarez opted for a much closer goal and with a lower risk margin when playing at home.
Participation in the opening match
In addition to the investment made, the fighter will have an active role during the opening day of the tournament in the Mexican capital. Canelo Álvarez's presence at the old Azteca Stadium includes a special appearance before the fans before the start of the fight.
The organization team confirmed that the 168-pound monarch will be the official person in charge of entering the field of play to present the recognition to the most valuable player of the contest at the end of the 90 regulation minutes.
