Fans of Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders clashed violently after the Leagues Cup final
Fights on the pitch spilled over into the stadium outside Seattle
The end of the Leagues Cup left tensions high on and off the pitch. Inter Miami, looking to give Lionel Messi his 47th title, lost 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field, a result that sparked frustration among players and fans alike.
At the end of the match, the situation spiraled out of control. First, the players began shoving and arguing, with Luis Suarez making a controversial gesture by spitting on a member of the Seattle coaching staff.
The incident was captured by Apple TV cameras and quickly went viral. Sergio Busquets was also present at the brawl, although his role was more of a restraining one.
Fighting in the stands and in the streets
What began on the field moved to the outskirts of the stadium. Videos circulating on social media show fans of both teams throwing traffic cones, trash cans, and sticks at each other, in addition to exchanging blows amid the chaos. In the images, jerseys from both clubs can be seen, confirming that the violence was perpetrated by fans of Seattle and Miami.
Regarding this street fight, so far, there have been no official reports of serious injuries. The festive atmosphere expected in Seattle after the victory turned into chaos in certain areas near the stadium, marring the celebrations of the team that was proclaimed champion of the Leagues Cup.
Reactions at the press conference
In a press conference afterward, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano stated that he did not witness the on-field brawl: "Nobody likes it when there are these types of actions at the end of the game. When there is a reaction, it could be a provocation, but I don't know what happened," he stated.
On the other hand, Brian Schmetzer, coach of the Sounders, emphasized that the true focus should be on his team's performance:"My reaction is that unfortunately this will take some of the attention away from a great performance by the Sounders. I can take it as a compliment that their players were frustrated, but that shouldn't be the story of the game."
