According to a report provided by journalist Chris Mannix during the broadcast of Diego Pacheco's fight on the DAZN platform, the work plan of the American boxer's corner is focused on completing a direct confrontation against the unified 154-pound monarch, Jaron “Boots” Ennis, once the corresponding negotiation talks begin.

Vergil Ortiz Jr's career remained paused during the first half of the year due to a legal dispute with the promotional company Golden Boy Promotions.

The boxer of Mexican origin had filed a lawsuit in the state of Nevada to terminate his exclusive contract, which caused the company led by Óscar de la Hoya to obtain a temporary restraining order on February 13 to prevent him from holding fights without his contractual authorization.

However, private negotiating tables allowed both parties to reach an amicable mutual agreement last Friday, thus avoiding the arbitration process and civil lawsuits in federal courts.

The projections to agree on a direct confrontation between both boxers face complex commercial variables, since Jaron Ennis' promoter prioritizes absolute unification before negotiating with Vergil Ortiz Jr at 154 pounds. The president of the Matchroom Boxing company, Eddie Hearn, acknowledged that there are other world title alternatives that the Philadelphia champion's corner prefers to explore in the medium term.

“We want to fight Vergil Ortiz, but Boots is very clear that he wants to become undisputed champion,” Eddie Hearn explained to Chris Mannix during the broadcast of the fight on the DAZN signal. "Josh Kelly fights next week in a very tough fight in Jeddah, on the AJ card. He is in the same group; it would be a tremendous unification, and, honestly, Boots' priority, his first option right now, is Sebastian Fundora. That is the fight he wants the most," the manager added regarding his client's planning.
