Heung-Min Son will help in the growth of the MLS, says Pochettino
The United States coach highlighted the impact the South Korean can have after his arrival at LAFC
Mauricio Pochettino, coach of the United States national team, was full of praise for Heung-Min Son, current LAFC player, with whom he worked during his time as coach of Tottenham. Ahead of Saturday's friendly between the United States and South Korea, the Argentine coach stated that the Asian striker's presence in Major League Soccer will be key.
"It was an incredible opportunity to see each other. We really appreciate each other. He was a very important player, one of the most important during my time at Tottenham," said Pochettino. "I think he's a player who will contribute to MLS and contribute to the evolution of soccer."
Son joined the Los Angeles team in August after a record-breaking transfer fee of $26 million, a historic figure for a player newly incorporated into the league. In his first four games with the club, he has already registered a goal and an assist, showing that his adaptation is progressing rapidly.
Pochettino turns the page with Pulisic and reacts to Levy's departure
Beyond the reunion with his former manager, Pochettino took advantage of the press conference to clarify the situation with Christian Pulisic, following the captain's controversial absence from the last Gold Cup.
"For me, it's a thing of the past, these kinds of things happen... we all make mistakes, sometimes because we interpret the situation differently," explained the coach. "Christian is happy to be here, of course he's an important player for us and... the atmosphere is good."
The Argentine coach also expressed surprise at the sudden departure of Daniel Levy as president of Tottenham, a position he held for years. “I'm a little in shock because he was my former president. I don't know what happened. Of course, I sent a message to him and several people very close to him. I wish him the best… my relationship [with him] was always very good, and yes, I was in shock.”
